Ex Libris Tours

Frome time to time, ELA oranizes tours (in person or via internet) for members who are interested in visiting libraries, archives, or related institutions and gathering together for a meal and some refreshment! All tours are reported in our newsletter, ELAN.

In March 2024 ELA members attended a presentation by Fiona Smith of the collection of Carnegie library postcards at Toronto Public Library Reference Library. Fiona's presentation was followed by a vist to the nearby Yorkville Carnegie library branch which opened in 1907. Another enjoyable tour feature was the ELA luncheon.

In fall 2022, ELA visited the Bloor/Gladstone Library which has been in service for more than a century. Toronto Public Library has renovated this branch and kept it up-to-date with innovative designs for both the exterior and interior. These are two photos taken by Doreen London during the fall tour.

ELA members also toured the popular antiquarian shop The Monkey's Paw on Bloor Street, Toronto, in fall 2022. This store features a unique vending machine for older books. Again, images provided by Doreen London.
